SC Rewind: Picture Parade

This week's Rewind is the monthly version of Picture Parade. Robert Smith has chosen a group of vintage photos from the archives for your viewing pleasure. If you wish to join in on the identifying of the subjects, please do so by sending in your answers as a comment.

This week's subjects are all pictured at a somewhat younger age than many readers may remember them. The task is to put a name (or names) on each one. Have fun matching up these younger faces with how they look in later years.

Picture Parade

#1 – These two lads may have “matured” just a bit since this was taken. They were all bundled up for Eastern Ontario winter weather. Who are they? Remember, they’re still around to defend themselves!

Picture Parade

#2 – This fellow may look slightly older nowadays, but maybe he’s like a fine wine. Who is he?

Picture Parade

#3 – This young buckaroo got an early start in his career of sulky sitting. Could he look any happier? Who is it?

Picture Parade

#4 – This gentleman spent a lot of years in the administrative part of our sport at a very high level but also had an early background with horses. Long associated with the Ontario Jockey Club, name him if you can.

Picture Parade

#5 – This fellow is probably too young to be in with a lot of old-timers, but when you have a picture this good, I decided to include it. Who do we have here?

Picture Parade

#6 – The young fellow perched on the tricycle along with his three sisters makes for a pretty picture. He might have changed just slightly. Who is he?

Picture Parade

#7 – This little gal, pictured with her mother, got a pretty early start attending a day of racing. She has been involved in many capacities involving harness racing throughout her lifetime. Who is she?

Picture Parade

#8 – This fellow hasn’t changed much, for sure. Okay, maybe he’s changed his hairstyle slightly. Can you name him?

Picture Parade

#9 – At the age of 6 not every kid has a set of silks, but this young lad was just getting ready for his life ahead. If I have my stories correct, he did appear on the track shortly after this vintage photo was taken. Who might he be?

Picture Parade

#10 – The accompanying surroundings might give this one away. Who is he?

(The correct answers will be posted here by Robert as a comment in a few days.)

Blast From The Past

This old photo was reportedly taken in 1917 as the annual fair in this Ontario town was being held. It is interesting to see where a lot of attendees parked their vehicles. The infield was for “horseless carriages,” as they were often referred to, while the horse and buggies surrounded the track.

Blast from the Past

There is a question attached to this picture: Where was this taken? The main clue is that this location still hosts harness racing. To really help, I will add that they are currently racing there. The old grandstand was replaced many years ago. Give it a try.
