Quebec-bred trotter Kinnder Thinktwice took full advantage of a drop in company on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 2 at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania, making the lead early and then dominating the feature, a $15,753 conditioned fast-class trot, in 1:53.1.
The toteboard indicated that the feature would be a scrap between Kinnder Thinktwice and Aardiebythehill N. The favoured Wheeling N Dealin-Majestic Joy gelding Kinder Thinktwice was away strongly to get the early lead, but when Aardiebythehill N moved up to challenge that trotter broke stride for the second time in a pair of Stateside starts, Kinnder Thinktwice enjoyed an edge he wouldn’t relinquish. Fractions of :28, :57.2 and 1:25.3 preceded a :27.3 sprint home as Kinnder Thinktwice drew 3-3/4 lengths clear of pocket-sitter PC Free Wheeling (another son of Wheeling N Dealin) for driver Braxten Boyd, leading driver of the day with three wins, and trainer Susan Marshall, co-owner with John Marshall of White Haven, Pennsylvania. Bred by Denitza Petrova of Melbourne, Que., the former Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots champion Kinnder Thinktwice has earned more than $300,000 and is now a 20-time winner.
Trainer/driver Åke Svanstedt won with a pair of good-looking two-year-old trotters: the Ready Cash-To Soon filly Tindra Cash S, now undefeated in two starts after lowering her mark to 1:56.1 for Suleyman Yuksel Stable Inc., and the Gimpanzee-Final Countdown colt Create Escape, who won at first asking in 1:57.2 for Order By Stable AB.
Racing resumes at Pocono at 1 p.m. on Saturday; there will be a carryover into the last race High 5 pool. Sunday racing is finished for the year at Pocono, so the next card after Saturday will occur on Monday, also at 1 p.m., and that Monday program will feature hard-knocking two- and three-year-olds battling for divisional bragging rights and $320,000 USD in purse money in the eight Pennsylvania Stallion Series Championships.
