Longshot Rockemsockem Scott rebuffed his rivals to win the featured $1,700 Winners Over pacing event on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 19) at Inverness Raceway.
After Euchred (Walter Walker) broke stride behind the gate and was pulled up, there was an early three-way tussle into the first turn with insider Rockemsockem Scott forging on and lining up his four rivals left in behind for driver/owner Gerard Kennedy.
After a pair of :30.2 opening panels over the 'good' track, Sunshine Lou (Don Gillis) rushed up to confront the longshot leader heading to the 1:30.2 three-quarters mark with Dan Dar Mal (Alex MacNeil) moving second-over then going three-wide on the final bend.
A race to wire ensued between Rockemsockem Scott and Dan Dar Mal, with the former holding on to win by a half-length in 2:01. Last week's winner Daddy Let Me Drive (Rod Gillis), the odds-on favourite here, was loaded with pace in behind the tightly grouped bunch turning for home and got out to finish third.
Rockemsockem Scott returned $15.50 to win as the 6-1 longest shot on the board.
The four-year-old son of Rockin Amadeus has earned five victories from 14 starts since arriving in Nova Scotia this year for trainer Donald Kennedy, and is now a nine-time winner over the course of his career.
