Positive results from VLT and pari-mutuel revenue has prompted Saratoga Casino and Raceway to increase its purses by 15 per cent, effective September 19.
The adjustment in purses will raise the overnight purse distribution to $100,000 per program, the highest amount in the 71-year history of the track. The increase will impact all classes.
"We are extremely pleased to offer horsemen the opportunity to earn more money while competing at our racetrack," said John Matarazzo, director of racing operations at Saratoga Casino and Raceway. "The increased purses will contribute to our on-going efforts to offer a top quality racing product for our fans."
Open Division horses will now race for $21,000; $10,000 Claimers will race for $8,600, while Maidens and $5,000 Claimers will race for $5,200 and $4,500, respectively.
The harness track’s 2012 race season runs through December 15.
