Hennessy And Kanak Wrap Up Track On 2 Titles

Driver Mike Hennessy and trainer Rebecca Kanak ended The Track On 2’s spring meet with the advantage in their respective standings, and both maintained the lead through the fall term to end the season on top on Wednesday, Sept. 16.

Hennessy won twice on closing day to finish the season with 38 wins for a threepeat in the drivers’ standings. He was 11 tallies ahead of Drew Campbell in second with 27, with Phil Giesbrecht third on 19 wins. Hennessy struck at a 26.6 rate through the season and also led the drivers in money. The Lacombe, Alta. reinsman’s overall seasonal total now reads 141-for-615.

Kanak had the title locked up entering closing day and finished with 24 wins, while Mathew Howlett scored twice on Wednesday to narrow the gap to 11, raising his own haul to 13. Kelly Hoerdt’s closing-day training double got him up to third on 10 wins. Kanak finished with a 27.6 per cent win rate and also amassed the most earnings of all conditioners. The fourth-year trainer has set personal bests in wins and purses this year with 83 and $431,112, respectively.

Alberta racing now switches to Century Mile, beginning on Friday, Sept. 25.
