Anyone that knows the first thing about the behind the scenes aspect of horse racing knows that grooms can be a major part of a horse's success. It is also known that grooms' dedication and perseverance can routinely make their job a 24-hour-a-day affair. Therefore, it is not rare to see grooms spend a large amount of time in the backstretch

A report by California Watch has shined its light on the lifestyle of the many grooms and how a certain west coast racetrack has chosen to engage in a new culturally-based pilot project to help ease depression, social isolation and other issues which grooms and caretakers face on a day-to-day basis.
