Ross Battin carved out a trip for Twin B Rawley in Tuesday’s $10,000 Preferred-2 Trot at Western Fair Raceway, and the Gord McKnight pupil didn’t waste it

.

Twin B Rawley and Battin got away fourth in the eight-horse affair while Long Ago (Alfie Carroll) front-stepped the field through fractions of :29.3, :59 and 1:29. Cadillac Kid (Mark Pezzarello), who was parked every step of the mile, gave Twin B Rawley some cover to follow in the final half of the mile and when Battin called on his charge he had plenty of speed to offer.

A :30-second final frame was enough for Twin B Rawley to win by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:59.1. Long Ago held on for the runner-up award, with Big Changes (Greg Dustin) closing from far back to grab third prize.

Rusty and Deanna Spitzig of Courtright, ON own the 20-time winner, who is now 7-for-27 this season. The six-year-old son of Malabar Maple has banked more than $259,000 in his career.
