As the 2025 Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) came to a close over the Labour Day weekend, Standardbred Canada celebrated a highly successful run inside the Agricultural Building (Better Living Centre), where thousands of families stopped by to experience the organization’s interactive harness racing exhibit. Over the fair’s 18-day span from Aug. 15 to Sept. 1, the CNE welcomed 1.6 million visitors, with the Agricultural Building remaining one of the fair’s most popular family attractions.

The virtual reality racebike simulator quickly became the star of the show. The simulator consistently drew lines and was hailed as the “coolest thing” families experienced at the fair. For many, it wasn’t just a thrill — it became their first introduction to harness racing. While children eagerly waited their turn, Standardbred Canada staff engaged with parents, sparking meaningful conversations about Standardbreds, youth programs and opportunities for future ownership.

The miniature driver and sulky activation also proved to be a hit, inspiring children to climb into wooden sulkies, don brightly coloured driving jackets and sign up as members, or should we say, future drivers.

Families new to horses and racing who joined Standardbred Canada’s Junior Membership program were automatically entered into the Win a Share of a Racehorse draw and nine lucky finalists were invited to experience the sport firsthand at Grand River Raceway on Sept. 5. A victory by Eurobank Hanover and driver Samuel Fillion in the evening's second race delivered the contest winner's share to nine-year-old Junior Member Phoenix Henriques.

Beyond the fun, the exhibit delivered important educational takeaways. Parents expressed interest in youth lesson programs, beginner driving experiences and opportunities to connect their children with horses, all areas that align with Standardbred Canada’s long-term industry development strategy.

Standardbred Canada looks forward to bringing its Junior Membership exhibit to fairs across the country, offering fresh experiences that will engage, educate and inspire families and fans for years to come.
