There were a few family stories told on a big night of racing at Indiana Downs Saturday as the Hoosier state showcased its best in Indiana Sires Stakes finals. Offspring from the first crop by Always A Virgin swept the events for two-year-old pacers and Russell and Jacalyn Beeman's horses made two trips to the winner's circle.
Right Touch, a son of Always A Virgin trained, driven and co-owned by Ray Paver, won the $200,000 final for two-year-old pacing colts in 1:52.2 over another son of Always A Virgin, Mister Virgin. Paver shares ownership of the winner with Knox Services and John Rhoads Jr. The two-year-old pacing filly final went to Always About Katey, who turned in a 1:54.4 victory for trainer Roger Welch and Peter Wrenn.
The Beemans picked up two big wins with Russell Mania in the two-year-old trotting colt final and Dontfusswithruss in the three-year-old trotting colt final. Both are sons of the sire Elegant Man, with Russell Mania winning in 1:57 and Dontfusswithruss scoring in 1:56.3.
Other winners of the Sires Stakes finals were as follows:
Two-Year-Old Filly Trot - Ajuama (Jailhouse Jessee) in 1:58.2;
Three-Year-Old Filly Trot - Cincinnati Star (Cincinnati Kid) in 1:56;
Three-Year-Old Filly Pace - Kerosene (I Scoot Hanover) in 1:52.3;
