Homebreds Featured At Hippodrome 3R

A homebred in harness racing means that the horse was bred and is owned by the same person(s) and that in most cases the foal was never sent to any public auctions before it began racing.

At the Hippodrome 3R on Sunday afternoon, each of the three divisions of the final round of the Future Stars Series for two-year-old trotters, the race favourite is a homebred.

The 26 youngsters entered on Sunday are seeking points to make it to their respective $55,000 finals at H3R on Sunday, September 9.

The two colt divisions take place in races two and three.

Race two features the homebred Money Hill, who starts from post six for Hall of Fame trainer/driver Yves Filion. This son of Muscle Hill scored his first win last week for owner/breeder R L Belanger of Laval.

Money Hill wired the field with ease for his first pari-mutuel win and prior to that he won a qualifying race at Mohawk Park in 2:00.3.

Money Hill was bred to be a champion. His sire, Muscle Hill, is a world champion racing and sire. And Money Hill’s dam is Norway No Day by Self Possessed, who many older fans may remember her dominance in the trotting ranks at the Hippodrome de Montreal where she earned $330,000 before retiring.

The third race is the second colt division and the homebred favourite is Cesar Duharas from post two for trainer/driver Stuart Sowerby. This son of Muscle Massive had an early win the Future Stars Series and has a record of 1:59.4. He has also been raced timed at Mohawk Park in 1:58.2.

He was bred and is owned by Haras De L Estrie of Dunham. From the Cantab Hall mare, Cleopatre Duharas, she was a 1:54.4 winner of more than $164,000 on the racetrack.

It would also be a special victory for Sowerby, as he is at 999 career driving wins and with a victory here would hit 1,000-win milestone.

The lone filly division takes place in race six and featured is Kenogami Darling for driver Guy Gagnon.

A winner in two of her four starts for trainer Dany Fontaine, Kenogami Darling scored an OSS Grassroots win at Mohawk in 1:59.2. Then she came to H3R for the second leg of the series and won that with ease and goes for her third straight win on Sunday for breeder Jean Francois Reid of Anjou, who co-owns the filly with Claude Reid of Jonquiere.

She is sired by Justice Hall from the Ken Warkentin mare, Profound Wisdom, who did race, winning an Ontario Sire Stakes Gold division in 1:57.3 at Mohawk before injuring herself.

Post time Sunday is 12:50 p.m. For a free race program, visit www.quebecjockeyclub.com.
