Modern Legend's Brother Wins At Rideau

Web Cam prevailed in the featured $6,500 Winners Over Pace while driver Guy Gagnon won nearly half the card on Sunday night at Rideau Carleton Raceway.

Gagnon went on a winning streak right out of the starting gate, taking the first four races with Gilbert Mercier's Windsong Karma ($4.10), Trophy Daughter ($4.80) for trainer Carl Duguay, Face To Face ($21.20), who made her first start from the Jamie Copley stable a 14-1/2 length romp, and his own trainee Solid Performance ($5). He also took the 10th race with Copley's repeat winner Mister Icon ($3.10) and came close on three other occasions.

In the top class, pocket-sitter Web Cam ($9.10) and driver Denis St Pierre just nipped the pacesetting Red Bugler and Gagnon at the wire as they shot up the passing lane for the 1:55.1 triumph over a sloppy track rated two seconds off. Copley's Red Bugler had led through fractions of :27.3, :57.1 and 1:25 before being collared by Web Cam. If I Remember and Clarke Steacy finished one and three-quarter lengths behind in third.

Owned by Holland Racing Stable of Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ont., Web Cam is now two-for-two since joining John MacMillan's stable this month. The seven-year-old Astreos-Ruby Cam gelding is a half-brother to Modern Legend, who pulled off a 66-1 upset in the Canadian Pacing Derby last night at Mohawk Racetrack.

Web Cam's victory was his 10th lifetime and pushed his career earnings over the $200,000 mark.
