Tioga Track Record For Shaky Hanover

Shaky Hanover and Matt Kakaley rewrote the record books at Tioga Downs on Saturday night in a division of the New York State Fair Stakes

. The two-year-old daughter of Bettors Delight-Shady Past is trained by Jim Perry for William and Jack Heinz of Ohio.

Kakaley moved Shaky Hanover to the front past the half mile pole in :55.1, then the duo slowed through the third quarter and reached that marker in 1:24.2. From there, Kakaley asked Shaky Hanover to sprint away from the field and she responded winning by a half length in a new track record time for two-year-old pacing fillies in 1:53.3.

Maxs Leading Lady (Kyle Di Benedetto) got up for second while Truly A Treasue (Greg Merton) hung on for third.

It was the fourth win in six starts for Shaky Hanover, who increased her bankroll to more than $67,000 with the lion’s share of the $33,768 purse. Shaky Hanover is a half sister to Sharky Osborne, who carries a mark of 1:49.4 and more than $635,000 in career earnings. William and Jack Heinz purchased Shaky Hanover from the Harrisburg sale in 2008 for $14,000.

Galimony (Matt Kakaley) captured the first division of the New York State Fair Stakes for freshmen pacing fillies in 1:54.4. It was a new lifetime mark for the two-year-old daughter of Artiscape-Ideal Gal, who is owned by Stake Your Claim Stable of New Jersey, with Linda Toscano down as trainer. It was the fourth win in five starts for Galimony, who sports a bankroll of more than $57,000 with the victory.

In the other division, Lady Major (Greg Merton) went wire-to-wire through fractions of :27.2, :57.2 and 1:25.3 before hanging on at the wire in 1:55.1. It was the third win in five starts for the two-year-old daughter of Art Major-Eastern Lady, who was purchased for $15,000 as a yearling. The mile was a new lifetime mark for Lady Major, who has banked over $60,000 in her first five career starts for Kenneth Jacobs, the SloDown Stable, Edmund Namiotka and Vincent Tancredi, all of New York.

Lucy Lucy captured the week’s $12,000 Open Handicap Pace for fillies and mares for the third straight week. Marohn and Lucy Lucy settled in last as Riley Rose and Sean Bier cut out fractions of :27.2, :57.1 and 1:25.1. Marohn tipped Lucy Lucy four-wide off the last turn and paced home a final quarter in :27 to capture her eighth victory of the year in twenty starts. It was the sixth win in eight starts locally for Lucy Lucy at Tioga Downs for trainer Mike Deters and owner Jay Sears of Florida. With the victory, Lucy Lucy increased her seasonal earnings to more than $62,000. Riley Rose (Sean Bier) hung on for second, while Bet The Ranch (Howard Okusko Jr.) got third.

Matt Kakaley posted a driving triple on the night’s 11-race card, while Jimmy Marohn Jr. and Richard Simard each collected driving doubles.

Tioga Downs continues live racing action on Sunday afternoon with a post time of 1:30 p.m. featuring the New York State Fair Stakes for three-year-old colt trotters, and three-year-old filly trotters.
