Hanover Raceway will celebrate 13 horsepeople plus one special horse during its second annual Heritage Day set for Saturday, September 15.
Lou Macs Review, owned by Paul Walker and Carscot Stables, and bred by Robert Macdonnell and Ron Loucks had a tremendous career both on and off the track. Not only did she make $560,000 dollars in purse money, but her broodmare career included offspring that made over $1.2 million in earnings.
According to GM Gord Dougan, Hanover Raceway will also honour 13 people in the racing and building categories. Those people being honoured are as follows:
2012 Hall of Fame inductee Dave Wall, formerly of Kincardine
Horseperson of the Century Keith Waples, formerly of Durham
Driver/Trainer Ross Battin of Monkton
Trainer Ross Henry of Arthur
Owner/Trainers Jean and Peter Thibaudeau of Hanover
Starting gate operator Earl Weppler
Board member Charlie Martin
Board member John Beirnes
Board members Helen and Norm Lamburtus
Board members Vi and Norm Fitzsimmons
"Originally we were only going with a few horses and or people each year, but with the future of harness racing in jeopardy due to the decisions of the provincial government, we felt we had better increase our nominees in case we didn’t have this opportunity in the future," said Dougan.
Heritage Day will include a special display on the achievements of the nominees, write-ups and pictures of the nominees in the program, plus memorabilia from Hanover Raceway. The program will also include a special race, called the Heritage Day Pace. Post time on Saturday September 15th will be 7:15 p.m.
