Century Lunar lowered her career-best time in one of three $8,000 Prospect Series divisions for two-year-old pacing fillies on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at Grand River Raceway.
Driven Louis-Philippe Roy and Century Lunar got away fourth from post six, maintaining their position through the :27.2 quarter and :57.1 half. After the half-mile marker, Roy tipped the Eric Nadeau student first over en route to the top, achieving second from the outside at the three-quarters in 1:26. At the top of the stretch, Century Lunar found open track ahead and cruised home to win by 2-1/2 lengths in a lifetime best 1:55.4. Brittas Best Bet (Phil Hudon) took second and pacesetting Century Liberty (Austin Sorrie) had to settle for third.
Roy, French Conection Racing and Gaston Bibeau co-own the Dancin Lou-Sunshine Patriot filly. In four starts in her young career, Century Lunar has a record of 2-1-1 and $12,920 earned. She paid $2.40 as the heavily backed favourite.
Greystone Playgirl ($22.80) won her first career race in the first division of the Prospect Series on the evening card with trainer/co-owner Steven Hudon holding the lines. The Shadow Play-Greystone Ladylike filly won her division by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:57.3 for Hudon and partners Laura Toscani, Carmelo Scime and John Henderson.
Miss Danni Song ($11.20) made her maiden voyage a triumphant return by three-quarters of a length in 1:56.4 with Todd Ratchford in the bike for trainer Mary Ratchford. Breeder/owners Ronald Ash and Mike McLaughlin co-own the freshman Big Jim-Gravel filly.
