Lyndale Royal Wins Third Straight ATSS

Lyndale Royal kept his Atlantic Sires Stakes record in tact on Saturday afternoon at Northside Downs, scoring his third straight victory in one of the two $9,620 ‘A’ divisions for two-year-old pacers on the card

Lyndale Royal and driver Brodie MacPhee rallied three-wide around Island Lexus (Danny Romo) past the third quarter mark to prevail by a half length over that rival in 2:00.1. Early leader Pondside Thunder (Bernard McCallum) finished third.

David MacDonald of Belfast, P.E.I. purchased the son of Force Of Life-Royal Pursuit for $4,100 at the Atlantic Classic sale. The gelding finished second in his debut in the Callbeck Stakes on July 6 at Summerside Raceway and has since recorded three straight Atlantic Sires Stakes victories at Summerside, Truro Raceway and now Northside Downs. The Terry Affleck trainee boasts lifetime earnings of $13,154.

Lyndale Royal paid $9.10 to win.

Dukes Up broke his maiden in the second division with Earl Smith in the bike for trainer Albert Davies.

The son of Fit For Life-Duchess Of Dexter advanced first over and wore down pacesetter Lonestar Sydney (Greg Sparling) to win in 2:01.1 by one and a half lengths. Driven By Example (Leonard Myers) finished third but was placed fourth for going inside pylons in the stretch, resulting in the placing of Riccaras Star (Clare MacDonald) from fourth to third.

Reginald MacPherson of Stratford, P.E.I. purchased Dukes Up for $3,900 at the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition sale. While the win was his first, the brown colt has picked up cheques in all three of his previous stakes starts to bank $7,277.

Dukes Up paid $8.90 to win.

In the lone $2,500 ‘B’ division, Frankie Roy and trainer-driver Doug MacDonald edged out Smooth Talkin Dan (Wade Sorrie) to win his career debut by a neck in 2:02.4. MacDonald co-owns the son of Force Of Life-Dunnville Hope with Dale Boswall of North Wiltshire, P.E.I. He paid $13.90 to win.

Later on the card the Greg Sparling-driven Woodmere Westerner front-stepped his way to 1:58.3 score in the $1,000 Rankin Memorial Open Pace.

The seven-year-old son of Western Success-Harrods Route was on top through fractions of :30.3, 1:00.2 and 1:29.3, only relinquishing the lead briefly to first over Dvc Done Good (John Beaton) at the half. Fighting back on the inside, Woodmere Westerner put away that challenger and paced home to the two length triumph. Fex Education (Ryan Campbell) and I Am Mint (Brodie MacPhee) finished second and third respectively.

Mary Lynn Collins trains and co-owns the bay gelding, who has hit the board in 10 of his 12 starts this year, with Howard Collins of North Sydney, N.S.

Woodmere Westerner paid $3.90 to win.

In the following 11th race, an accident occurred when Iona Paula (Angelo Camilli), who was fifth on the outside at the five-eighths mark, came down and struck Windy Bay J J (John Ellsworth), who then interfered with Loch Monster (Robert Wadden Jr.). Both horses fell while Iona Paula finished fifth but was disqualified for causing the incident. Trot Insider will provide more details if made available.
