When driver Jody Jamieson stickhandled Lous World through tight quarters on Saturday, Aug. 3 at Woodbine Mohawk Park and guided the sophomore colt to the winner's circle, there were multiple reasons to celebrate.
Sitting seventh and mired in traffic at the head of the lane, Jamieson knifed through his rivals with the precision of a skilled surgeon and got the 6-5 favourite up for the 1:51.2 score. Garry Merner trains the son of Sweet Lou - World Apart for Gino Toscani of Mount Hope, Ont.
With the victory, Jamieson surpassed $150 million in career earnings and became the first Canadian-based driver to achieve that feat.
The two-time World Driving Champion and three-time O'Brien Award winner has represented his country in five World Driving Championships and sports victories in many of harness racing's most prestigious races. Now residing in Guelph, Ont., Jody Jamieson sports 8,746 victories along with more than $150 million in purse earnings.
The gathering of connections in the winner's circle for Lous World also provided a perfect opportunity for a proposal, as A.J. Miziolek dropped to one knee and popped the question to caretaker Jennifer Rivet.
She said yes.
