Fresh off a victory in Inverness Raceway’s Winners Over Pace earlier this week on Wednesday, Aahm Cruisin returned to the half-mile track on Sunday for the double
.
Despite capturing Wednesday’s event, Aahm Cruisin was sent postward in Sunday’s $1,200 Winners Over as the longest shot on the board at odds of 34-1. The eight-year-old son of Armbro Cruiser-Aahm A Jewel defied those odds with a season’s-best 1:58.1 victory for trainer Louis Beaton and owner Anthony Beaton of Inverness, NS.
With driver Joseph Poirier subbing in for regular reinsman Gary Delaney, Aahm Cruisin got away fifth from Post 3 while Mitchs Ceilidh (Alex MacNeil) took control from the next position over and put up the :28.3 first quarter. As Mitchs Ceilidh headed past the three-eights marker, he made a break and caused interference to Artgentina (Neil MacInnis) on the outside while Colum Magic (Lewis MacDonald) inherited the lead from the pocket spot.
Colum Magic raced past the half in :57.3 and three-quarters in 1:27.3 with favourite Cam Cool (Ryan Campbell) applying first over pressure, but Aahm Cruisin kicked into attack mode in the stretch and cruised to a one and three-quarter length victory with a :30-second final frame. Colum Magic and Cam Cool finished second and third.
Aahm Cruisin paid $70.20 to win for the eighth time in 25 starts this year. The gelding now boasts 24 wins on his lifetime record with $102,154 in earnings.
Earlier on the card in the fifth race, a minor accident occurred when Victory George (Campbell) ran up on the wheel of pacesetter J Gs Hangman (Travis MacLean) and veered out into Amrbro Angora (MacDonald) unseating both drivers. Fortunately, the pair escaped serious injuries and completed their remaining drives on the card.
