Although his winning ways didn’t begin until late in the 15-race card Friday at Rideau Carleton Raceway, once trainer/driver Mark Steacy got started, there was no stopping him as he pushed his training win total over the 1,000 milestone marker
.
The resident of Lansdowne, Ont. won three races on the card with his own pupils. Steacy went coast-to-coast with his two-year-old Angus Hall trotting filly Cool Canada (2:01.2) in the ninth race and returned to victory lane in the 13th with his other Angus Hall filly J M Annie (2:02.2), who picked up her first career win and gave Steacy win No. 1,000. Steacy then closed out the card with one more victory aboard his Windsongs Legacy sophomore pacer Fire And Wind (1:59.1).
Steacy now sports 52 wins on his training record this year with $869,331 in purse earnings. With 1,001 victories under his belt, the 48-year-old horseman boasts over $11.3 million in winnings.
