Rose Run Why Not circled her three rivals as she stepped up from the conditioned ranks and won the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Trot at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Wednesday, Aug. 27.
She started fourth and last in the shortened field for Pascal Berube and trailed through fractions of :27.4, :57.4, and 1:27 with Tyrone Bow Tie (Ryan Guy) working his way to the top before the half. Rose Run Why Not charged off the pylons heading into the last turn and had clear sailing on the outside to march towards Tyrone Bow Tie. She blew past him at the top of the stretch, but Kenogami Coco (Robert Shepherd) also sprung forward on the inside and commenced a battle to the wire. With both horses in a full-out drive, Rose Run Why Not kept her neck in front to win in 1:56.1. Tyrone Bow Tie held third.
Rose Run Why Not has won back-to-back starts after beginning the year one-for-13. She is trained by Carl Duguay, who co-owns the mare with Investissement KFB of Sorel-Tracy, Que. The seven-year-old daughter of Uncle Peter-Loconotion is now 20-for-122 lifetime with $166,756 in earnings.
