Kioti was back in action Sunday, Aug. 27 at The Track On 2, rebounding from having a six-race win streak snapped last time out by pacing the fastest mile ever recorded at the Alberta oval.
Kioti started from post six in the seven-horse field of non-winners of six pacers contending for the $5,500 purse. Pilot Mike Hennessy hustled Kioti from the outset, racing to a parked out lead through the opening quarter of :27 as Mr Dillion and Logan Gillis were hesitant to relinquish the lead to the favourite on the opening turn. Kioti cleared on the backstretch before leading the field to the halfway point in :55.2. Kioti maintained his lead on the final turn, however, with a new pursuer in tow as Tin Can Timmy and David Kelly moved into the pocket position through three-quarters in 1:23.3.
The duo turned for home in front, separating themselves from the field as Tin Can Timmy tipped from the pocket to make his move on Kioti. Kioti found more in deep stretch, powering home in :27.3 to stop the time in 1:51.1, two lengths clear of Tin Can Timmy on the line. Needabankloan and Brandon Campbell rounded out the trifecta. Kioti paid $3.50 to win.
Trained by Douglas Stout, the four-year-old rookie son of Mystician-Blue Star Beauty picked up his 11th victory in 19 outings in 2023. The 1:51.1 effort was a lifetime best for Kioti and established a new all-age track record at The Track On 2 which was previously set by HF Thegreatpumpkin (1:52) in 2020.
Kioti didn't have the lone record performance on the 10-race card for driver Mike Hennessy, as Im Outrageous Too paced to a new track record for two-year-old fillies.
Im Outrageous Too left alertly from post six in the seven-horse two-year-old maiden, quickly grabbing the lead through an opening quarter of :28.3. Hennessy tapped the brakes on the backstretch as Im Outrageous Too slowed things to the half in :57. Im Outrageous Too began to let out on the lead by three lengths around the final turn as he brought the field to three-quarters in 1:26.3.
Im Outrageous Too left no doubt in the lane, floating home in :28.2 to score by 3-1/2 lengths in 1:55. Living To The Max and Brandon Campbell rallied for second, with Born A Spy and Logan Gillis finishing third. Im Outrageous Too paid $3.40 for the victory.
The win was the first in three career outings for the Outrageous Art filly. Trained by Travis Ellis, Im Outrageous Too has banked $2,300 for owners Trevor Williams and Timothy Gordon.
