Out Of Ice moved closer to an Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots sweep as he remained unbeaten in the series for sophomore pacing males with a fourth-leg victory on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

In the first of two $25,000 divisions, he floated out for Louis-Philippe Roy, who dropped the gelding in third on the first turn before sending him to the front past the :26.2 quarter. Out Of Ice reached the half in :54.1 and saw Grin And Win (Billy Davis Jr.) on the approach as they rounded the final turn, so he picked up speed through three-quarters in 1:22.2. The leader powered away down the stretch, and Roy had little work to do as Out Of Ice glided home to win by 2-1/4 lengths in 1:50.3. Silverwalls (Tyler Borth) finished second, followed by Time Passer (James MacDonald).

Out Of Ice has won three straight starts, all in the Grassroots, and is now six-for-10 this year. The son of Hes Watching-Warrawee Star is trained by Carl Jamieson, who co-owns him with George Harrison of Preston, England, the Estate of Brian Paquet, and 1140545 Ontario Ltd. of Guelph, Ont. The gelding has won seven times and earned $116,505 in 20 lifetime outings. He returned $2.70 at the windows.

Sos Sports Bet went all the way to take his first career Ontario Sires Stakes win in the second division. He flew towards the opening turn to take the lead for MacDonald and paced a :27 quarter and :55.4 half before a challenge came from Tip Of Time (Roy) on the homeward turn. Sos Sports Bet held him at his wheel through three-quarters in 1:23.1 and gained a bigger edge at the top of the stretch, but Tip Of Time marched on and chipped away at the pacesetter down the stretch. Sos Sports Bet was game though, and he dug in to find the wire in time and win by a head in 1:51.3. Shadow Of An Angel (Trevor Henry) closed on the outside for third.

Sos Sports Bet notched his fifth win of the season in 14 attempts after going 0-for-two as a rookie. The Gregg McNair-trained son of Bettors Delight-Sos Bambie has now earned $91,534 for owner/breeder Ryan MacDonald of Halifax, N.S. He paid $3.30 to win.

Pick A Genre ($2.80) demolished his opponents in the $16,000 Pop-Up Series Final, soaring away by 8-1/4 lengths in the lane to win in 1:54.1 with Trevor Henry driving for trainer Shayne Barrington, who co-owns the six-year-old gelding with Kayla Hendry and Janaya Gallant. The series was for $8,000 claiming horses and geldings that were non-winners of $5,000 in their previous five starts.
