Lost but not forgotten in all the storylines from Old Home Week on Prince Edward Island is that rookie driver Luke Armstrong of New Brunswick scored his first-ever career victory.
On Saturday, August 22, Armstrong, who is a fifth-generation horseman, scored his maiden-breaking win with veteran pacer Coral Snake. The duo started from Post 1 and went gate-to-wire in the 1:57.2 victory.
The race actually ended in a dead-heat, but Armstrong still gets full credit for the win. Armstrong won for co-owner along with Rick Armstrong. They have deep roots in the harness racing industry in NB.
Racing in New Brunswick will return in a big way this coming Saturday (August 29) at Exhibition Park Raceway. The card will feature the lucrative Maritimer stakes for three-year-old fillies and the Aged Mares series as part of the program.
