Big Heart N Soul posted a front-end victory in the P.E.I. Colt Stakes Gold feature to remain undefeated on Thursday, Aug. 20 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Gilles Barrieau settled her away third at the start, then pulled first out to charge to the lead before the opening quarter in :28.3. The filly went on to command the $28,200 contest for two-year-old pacing fillies, controlled the middle fractions of :59 and 1:28.3, and held a 1-1/2-length margin to the line for her third win from as many lifetime starts. Starship Daisy (Marc Campbell) finished second, with Isle Impress You (Ken Murphy) five more lengths back in third.
Barrieau trains the winning daughter of Big Jim-Mystic Eyes, who has now earned $19,522 for owner Wayne MacRae of Fall River, N.S. Big Heart N Soul returned $2.50.
Four $14,100 Grassroots divisions for two-year-old pacing fillies were also contested during the 13-dash program.
Sheeowtime Speed ($3.60) captured the first division with a 1:56.2 mile for driver Marc Campbell and trainer Earl Watts. The Somewhere Fancy-Betty Hill filly is owned by Windemere Farms of Springvale, P.E.I. and Matt and David Burke of Stratford, P.E.I.
Howmac Lula ($4.20) used a 28-second closing quarter to win her Grassroots split in 1:57.4 for trainer-driver Barrieau. Wayne MacRae, Howmac Farms Ltd. of Brookfield, P.E.I. and Brian Foley of Charlottetown, P.E.I. share ownership of the daughter of Malicious-Royaltywestho.
Trainer-driver Paul Langille controlled every station with A Kiss For Lucy ($5.20), who drew away in a dominant 1:58.3 victory. Nikway Farms of St. David’s, N.L., owns and bred the Cattlewash-Lucy Hanover filly.
Here For The Party ($6) completed the Grassroots action with a front-end score in 1:58.3 for driver Keith Legge and trainer George Rennison. The Sunshine Beach-Seethelightsngo filly is owned by Clarissa Maher of Lower Sackville, N.S., Rennison Racing Inc. of Truro, N.S. and Ian MacDonald of Lower Sackville.
Hound On The Beach ($5.10) dominated the Race-13 Jeff May Memorial finale for Marc Campbell and trainer Charles Gaudreault. The pacer supplied the fractions before opening up in a 1:52.4 romp.
Campbell also teamed up with trainer Bo Ford to win Race 4 with Steady Heart ($2.10) in 1:55.1, giving the Island reinsman three victories on the card and 27 wins through the first seven programs of Old Home Week.
Campbell holds the Old Home Week driving record with 31 victories over 16 cards in 2013. He came close again in 2024 with 28 wins during the 10-program meet. With three cards and 29 programmed drives remaining in the 2026 edition, Campbell needs four wins to equal his record and five to establish a new Old Home Week standard.
Jk Last Chance ($2.80) won the $4,250 Joe and Wal Hennessey Memorial in 1:55 for driver Jason Ryan and trainer Kenny Arsenault.
