Life Sign, the 1993 Little Brown Jug winner and Hall of Fame member, died on Aug. 14, 2014, at the age of 24.
Life Sign passed away at Stephen O’Donoghue's Morley Park Stud near Shepparton, Victoria, Australia.
A son of the incomparable Abercrombie and world champion filly Three Diamonds, Life Sign amassed $1,912,454 in purse earnings from 18 wins, 10 seconds and five thirds in 35 starts.
He won such prestigious classics as the three-year-old Breeders Crown, Art Rooney Memorial, International Stallion Stake, Burlington, Governor’s Cup, American-National and the Bluegrass Stake. But harness racing will forever link Life Sign to his herculean effort in the final of the 1993 Little Brown Jug.
At stud Life Sign left the winners of more than $117 million in stakes in North America, placing him among the top ten money-winning sires at his gait of all-time. While in Australia his stock has earned $12.4 million and in New Zealand, they amassed almost $2 million.
Real Desire ($3.2 million), the 2002 Horse of the Year, free-for-allers Life Source ($1.9 million) Peruvian Hanover ($1.8 million); the Meadowlands Pace winner Day In A Life ($1.8 million); and the U.S. two-year-old pacing colt of the year I Am A Fool ($1.1 million) were among the seven millionaires sired by Life Sign.
He was the broodmare sire of the winners of more than $97 million and eight millionaires including Loyal Opposition 1:48.4 ($2.6 million) and Breeders Crown winner Village Jolt ($1.7 million).
Life Sign was inducted into the U.S. Living Horse Hall of Fame in 2013.
