Freshman pacers entered into the fourth leg of the Prospect Series for colts at Clinton Raceway on Sunday (Aug. 20) afternoon.
Meet Me In Mekonos used a pocket trip to take the victory in the six-horse field going for $8,600.
Macwow (Travis Henry) was the pacesetter for the mile, leading the field through panels in :28.4, :59.3 and 1:29.2. Meet Me In Mekonos (Tyler Borth) followed in second before meeting Macwow eye-to-eye in the lane. Borth and the Gregg McNair trainee opened up on the field to win by 3-1/4 lengths in 1:59. Macwow finished second with Watch Your Mouth (Mario Baillargeon) third.
Ross Family Farms Ltd. owns the son of Bettors Delight and the Somebeachsomewhere mare Albany Hanover as he earned his first win in three starts. Meet Me In Mekonos paid $6.30 to win.
From the far outside in his field of five going for $8,500, Ballykeel Painter upset the field as the longest shot in the race at odds of 16-1.
Jayport Beach Boy (Mario Baillargeon) left from post two with Wild Doc Holliday (Tyler Borth) in second, Bettors Rush (Travis Henry) third and Ballykeel Painter (Daryl Thiessen) back in fourth. With the favourite off stride, the field remained unchanged and single file through the quarter in :29 and half in 1:00.3. Thiessen pulled his right line and sent the Terry McKibbin trainee to the top. Ballykeel Painter cleared the front after the three-quarters in 1:30.3. Down the lane, he kept on going to a two-length victory in 1:59.1. Wild Doc Holliday finished second with Bettors Rush taking the show spot.
Ballykeel Racing Inc. owns the freshman Dali colt as he won for the first time in two races. Ballykeel Painter paid $33.50 to win.
Tyler Borth notched four wins to make a driving grand slam on the 11-race card at the Huron County oval. Winning half of his drives on the day, Borth drove home winners in the first, fifth, sixth and eighth races. Not far behind was Daryl Thiessen with a driving triple.
The Seaforth Legion Branch 156 was trackside hosting a fundraiser during the afternoon and was able to raise just over $4,000 through a BBQ, Penny Auction, 50/50 and race sponsorships.
The handle over the 11-race card topped the $66,000 mark.
Only two Sunday afternoon cards remain in the 15-week season. The All-Memorial Race Day and Seaforth Lions Club Fundraiser will be held next Sunday, Aug. 27, and the season finale on Sept. 3 will feature the 43rd Annual Charity Driver's Challenge. Post time is 1:30 p.m.
