Three-year-old pacing gelding Control The Smile gave Brent Dunbar something to smile about on Friday evening (Aug. 19) at Grand River Raceway.

After missing by less than a length in their career debuts one week ago, new trainer Dunbar and Control The Smile were victorious for the first time in the evening's third race.

Driver Bruce Richardson worked out the winning trip aboard the heavily favoured Control The Moment gelding, who rallied from off-the-pace going three-wide turning for home to score in 1:57.2 by 1-3/4 lengths over Eddies Crusade and Rangers Shadow. He paid $2.60 to win.

The 30-year-old Harriston, Ont. trainer and son of the late horseman Brian Dunbar, who passed away earlier this year, shares ownership of Control The Smile with his mother, Dorothy.
