Kawartha Downs will welcome some of Canadian harness racing's elite performers to the grounds for a special race to kick off its Saturday (Aug. 20) card.
The evening kickoff, a nine-horse $5,000 event dubbed "The Legends Trot", features a field of drivers consisting of Hall of Famers Doug Brown, Paul MacDonell, Ron Waples and Randy Waples as well as Reg Gassien, Doug Hie, Carman Hie, Mike Saftic and Murray Samons. Off track, Garth Gordon and Bill O'Donnell will also be in attendance for the celebration of Ontario harness racing.
Saturday's card will also welcome connections from Tara Hills as well as the friends and family of the late Gerald Lowery, who will have a race held in his honour on the program. The celebration on Saturday comes in part with Kawartha Downs celebrating its 50th anniversary in various commemorations through the season.
