Freshmen pacing fillies were out in full force at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Thursday afternoon, as the half-mile oval hosted eight divisions
of the Atlantic Sires Stakes.
Honey Do Jigtime captured the first of three $9,200 “A” divisions for trainer/driver Clare MacDonald in 1:59.3. The daughter of Coastocoast Yankee-Gold Luck sat last to the half before motoring past all six of her foes en route to the maiden-breaking victory. Bemused was second and third prize went to Woodmere Gorgeous.
Morah Kerr of Greenfield and Phonsie McEachern of Port Hood, NS share ownership on the youngster, who has banked $7,756 to date. She was a $3,000 purchase from last year’s Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Yearling Sale.
Force Of Fire also celebrated her first lifetime win thanks to a 1:57.2 score in the second split. Driven by Danny Romo, the David Jackson-trained daughter of Force Of Life-Glacier Fire brushed to the lead shortly past the half and drew off to win by more than three lengths in 1:57.2. Moon Landing was second across the finish line and Our Lady Byng grabbed the show dough.
Jackson of Great Village, NS bred and owns the career winner of $7,299.
Ultimate Spirit visited the winner’s circle for the second time in her career following her triumph in the third division. The daughter of Toofunnyforwords-Exciting Life also used an off-the-pace approach to stop the teletimer in 2:02.3 for the tandem of driver Marc Campbell and trainer Robert Laffin. Acton Nervous came on late to finish second and Galamoe survived late interference to grab third prize.
Ultimate Stable of Greater Lakeburn, NB holds the ownership papers on the rookie, who has stashed away close to $8,000 in earnings in her first six starts. She was purchased for $1,000 at last year’s Atlantic Classic Yearling Sale.
The winners in the $2,500 “B” divisions for the two-year-old pacing fillies were Acton Normal (1:59.3), Forthena (2:01), Pams Pet (2:04.2), Maidens First Fily (2:03.2) and Clay Nitro (2:04).
