Alpine Claiming Series Continues

The second round of the Alpine Claiming Series continued on Tuesday evening program at the Charlottetown

Driving Park.

Oceanview Sue went gate-to-wire in the first of the three $1,500 divisions for the distaffers. She led through splits of :31, 1:02 and 1:31 before using a :28.3 final frame to post the winning effort in 1:59.3 for the tandem of driver Brodie MacPhee and owner/trainer Gerald Evans of Stratford, PEI.

Paid In Silver got away next to last before sweeping past her foes to win the second division in 1:58.2 for driver Mike Stevenson and trainer Glenn MacKay. The four-year-old daughter of Astreos extended her winning streak to three-in-a-row thanks to one-length triumph over Grinch. It was another three lengths in arrears to Picture It.

F F Stena led from start-to-finish in the final division for the gals. The four-year-old Electric Stena miss, who is owned by Jonah Moase of Cornwall, PEI, held on to win by a half-length margin over Diplomate Girl. Waterside Cheer held on to finish third. Marc Campbell mapped out the winning trip for the Neal Moase student who won for the eighth time in her career.

Three divisions were also served up for the guys, and

Hueys Boy used down-the-road tactics to take his division in 1:56.4 for the tandem of driver Mike Stevenson and owner/trainer Sean McSwain of Vernon Bridge, PEI. The four-year-old son of Cammibest drew off to win by 5-1/4 lengths over Skole, with JPs Cadet third. It was the third win of the season for the gelding who is now a six-time winner to date.

Major Venue was a winner by 5-1/2 lengths in his debut for trainer/driver Neil MacInnis. It was the first win of the season for the five-year-old son of Art Major, who was claimed out of the opening legs of the series. He defeated Victory George and Leaders First en route to the 1:56.3 tally.

Best Of Life rallied to win the final division by three-quarters of a length in 1:58.2 for driver Terry Gallant and owner/trainer Chris MacKay of Kensington, PEI. The seven-year-old Pro Bono Best gelding won for just the second time this season, but for the 15th time in his career.
