Rockabilly Rebel N will control his own destiny in the Friday evening James (Roach) MacGregor Gold Cup and Saucer Consolation, presented by The Guardian, at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park as Old Home Week continues.

The historic half-miler has 14 dashes to offer starting at 7 p.m. on Friday evening.

Rockabilly Rebel N will leave from post one in the $30,000 MacGregor consolation race after a fourth-place finish in Trial 1 last Saturday night. David Dowling is back in the bike for trainer Colin Johnson and owners Brad Grant of Milton, Ont. and Ecurie Csl of  Sorel-Tracy, Que. The New Zealand-bred son of A Rocknroll Dance is a two-time winner in 2023 including a 1:49.2 score over Hoosier Park in Indiana.

Bonus Round has the second fastest chartline in Trial action, behind Rockabilly Rebel N, and he did that 1:51.4 clocking while making a break in stride in Trial 1. Dave Kelly Jr. trains and drives the redemption seeking son of Santanna Blue Chip who came East from his Alberta base and drew post four for Friday.

Kelly’s younger brother Colin Kelly will also compete in the event while driving post eight starter Bayfield Beach for trainer Victor Puddy. Colin Kelly is one of the top drivers on the Ontario B circuit after leaving his native Cape Breton, N.S., in 2016.

Jody Jamieson is back on P.E.I. and will sit behind the post seven starter Livinthebeachlife from the Puddy barn after a sixth-place finish in Trial 1.

Nova Scotia pacer Batterup Hanover gets post three for trainer/driver Paul Langille. The son of Betting Line finished fourth in Gold Cup and Saucer Trial 3 on Monday evening.

Also in the field are YS Mathis (Marc Campbell), No Plan Intended (Jason Hughes), Bettim Again (Gilles Barrieau) and Repeal Or Replace (Myles Heffernan Sr.).

The "Post Time Picks" like Rockabilly Rebel N to get it all: “Rockabilly Rebel N was storming on the end of it in Trial 1 and if you need more proof, have a look at that closing quarter. The good news is he lands on the rail and with the way he can fly home, we think he wins the James MacGregor Memorial.”

The program also features the Lady Slipper Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies.
