Ohio-based trainer Brian Brown said today that all of the passengers and horses involved in a head-on collision on I-70 last night while returning to Ohio after racing at the The Meadows in Washington, Pennsylvania, are doing well.
The Zanesville Times Recorder reported last night that, “Four adults were hospitalized after a pickup truck hydroplaned and crossed into oncoming traffic Tuesday evening on Interstate 70, just east of Quaker City. Three horses in a trailer pulled by the F-350 also sustained minor injuries.
“Trooper Charles McDonnell of the Cambridge Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said Sheila Napier, 31, of Delaware, was traveling west on I-70 when she lost control of the Ford F-350 she was driving and hydroplaned shortly after 6 p.m. Her truck crossed the median into oncoming eastbound traffic near mile post 194, where it was struck by a tractor-trailer.
“Napier was taken to a Columbus hospital by MedFlight. Her passengers, Clyde Pfister, 20, of Richwood, Cameron McCown, 24, of Columbus, and Jessica Brown, 21, of Columbus, were taken to Southeastern Med in Cambridge with minor injuries.”
“As bad as the accident was, the kids and the horses are doing okay today [Wednesday],” said trainer Brian Brown, whose daughter Jessica and horse Lexvegas were involved in the accident.
“Sheila Napier, who works for [trainer] Ron Potter and was driving, went to Cambridge Hospital before being flown to OSU,” added Brown. “Today she’s improved a lot and could get out as early as tomorrow. The others were treated for some minor injuries in the emergency room last night.”
Besides Brown’s horse Lexvegas, who won the fourth race at The Meadows earlier in the day, two others, trained by Ron Potter, were also involved in the accident.
“All of the horses are doing reasonably well too,” added Brown. “They just have a few scrapes. My horse was even out walking today.”
