City of Hamilton Director of Economic Development and Planning Tim McCabe has confirmed that "absolutely confidential" discussions have taken place in regard to the possibility of building a gambling facility within the municipality.

“I have had some discussions through a third party, and there is some interest in Hamilton,” McCabe has been quoted as saying in an article by the Hamilton Spectator.

The report also explains that Councillor Sam Merulla has put forward a motion forbidding gaming expansion in the city until a referendum on the topic can take place during the 2014 municipal election.

In other Ontario-related gaming news, the Trentonian has reported that on Monday, August 13 Quinte West Council voted 9-3 in favour of a resolution confirming the city's willingness to become a host to a potential OLG gaming facility.

“We have no guarantee that we are going to get this casino,” Councillor Paul Kyte was quoted as saying. “But I think it's something that the city of Quinte West needs to have as an opportunity to create a new revenue stream.

“If it's not here, it's going to be next door. If it's not next door, it's going to be just east of that. So we should be looking at this as an opportunity, not a hurdle.”

Before Hamilton decides on a Casino I would propose that the decision makers take a bus trip to Atlantic City to view the "benefits" firsthand. Just make sure they manage to get at least a couple blocks off the "strip".

The OLG is all about deception, while this Fiberal government is all about secrecy and mis-information. Remember, the Fiberals quietly changed any need for referendums while virtually no one was looking.

ORNGE, E-health, SAR....what a fantastic legacy they are building at OUR expense.

Everything is a secret because the OLG has no where to go and is beginning to realize that and doesn't want the public to know. The public doesn't want casinos in their downtowns which is why all the politicians are trying to push things through without a referendum, they see dollar $igns and can't think straight. To hell with what the public wants its whats best for the politicians.7 months to end of SAR and OLG has no where to go, each passing day puts the tracks in more of a power position if they would only realize that and not sell out!!!

The roadblock for the Govt. and OLG is Bill 76. Not sure where it sits, but this is one Bill that must be passed.

This secrecy is most disturbing. The local politicians, the provincial politicians, the bureaucrats, the OLG all believe that they are the masters of society and not the servants. Why do they believe they can do whatever they want without public knowledge and input? Do they really think that thay are clever and everyone else is stupid? If they do, they have got things backwards. This is just plain insanity.

OLG is hurting. They don't want people to know that the Liberals used out of date statistics about Ontario Place so they could shut it down and put in a casino (which will never happen). They're getting desperate. If communities are wise, they will automatically request a referendum. Won't be long before they and the Liberals get exposed for their corrupt and unethical business practice. Too bad they have hurt so many already. Hopefully Vaughan and Kitchener/Waterloo are smart enough to see through the deception come bi-election. Chris

I can hardly beleive my eyes when I read these crazy articles on SC about municipalities being in favour of a casino coming to their cities/towns.They are acting like a two year old when he/she learns about Santa Claus. The people making these decisions are absolutely information poor in terms of the economic benefits to their communtiy. They do not know who is going to build it,who is going to manage it,what will the negative or positive impact on local hotels, restaurants, other entertainment venues etc.,will the casino pay property tax, what will be the net dollars going to the municipality and countless other issues. All this requires study and consultation. The mismanaged provincial government and corrupt OLG have a gun pointed right at municipal council heads by telling them they must make a decision by mid September. It is absolutely impossible for them to make a sensible, informed decision by that time.
