Fillies of the freshman variety flocked to Georgian Downs to compete in a total of seven OSS Grassroots divisions Tuesday evening, and seven different sires celebrated victories along the way.

Momara went wire-to-wire in her $12,857 assignment. Scott Zeron rolled the Gregg McNair trainee through panels of :28.3, :58.2 and 1:26.4 before finishing off the competition with a :28.3 closing quarter. The margin of victory was seven lengths for the youngster, who stopped the clock in 1:55.2. One Badland Nite was second, with Kiss Me Or Not finishing third.

Sent off at odds of 1-2, the daughter of Lis Mara-Mosaic improved her rookie record to 1-1-0 from just two trips behind the starting gate. The homebred winner of $10,928 is owned by Len Gamble, Don Mac Donald, Gregg McNair and David Kryway.

Justabit Mean also produced a maiden-breaking win for the tandem of driver Jody Jamieson and trainer Murray Brethour. The daughter of Mach Three-Hestia, who was sent off at odds of 6-5, led for most of the mile en route to the 1:56.3 triumph. Mary Michelle, who was 4-1/4 lengths in arrears, edged out St Lads Gabby Gall for the place award.

Brethour shares ownership on the $30,000 purchase from last year’s Forest City Yearling Sale with Noblock Racing Stable and David Heffering. The partners have watched her stash away close to $11,000 to date.

Shes A Hotmama, who was fifth in last week’s debut, held on for a half-length victory in the third division. Chris Christoforou quarter pole-moved her to the front, and once she got there the rest of the field couldn’t touch her. She stepped through middle panels of :58.2 and 1:26.2 before using a :30-second final frame to score the win over Wishful Luck and Skippin By.

Steve Charlton trains the homebred son of Major Hottie-Maman Secret Love for Larocque Racing Stb Inc and Kathleen Charlton. She’s stashed away $7,328 to date.

Rodena pulled off an upset to the tune of 11-1 in the next division. The daughter of Major In Art-Allied Pan Lines swept off cover for driver Scott Zeron and used a :29.4 closing quarter to win by a neck over Big Diva in 1:55.2. Third went to Catwoman.

Trainer Tony Alagna co-owns the freshman with Martinez Equine, and together they’ve watched the homebred build her bankroll to $6,428.

Born To Dream was a disappointing seventh in her debut against Gold Series foes on July 1, but she was a handy winner in Tuesday’s assignment versus Grassroots rivals. Mario Baillargeon put the even-money favourite on the lead right from the word ‘go’ and she led through fractions of :29, :59.4 and 1:28 before using a :28.1 kicker to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Gram Rules in 1:56.1. Delirium was third.

Martin Lachance trains the homebred, who lifted her lifetime earnings to $6,428 with the win, for Lomangino Standardbreds.

Ramblin Rose gave the duo of Baillargeon and Lachance back-to-back stakes winners on the card thanks to her 1:56 triumph. The Artistic Fella-Nukes Last Dream miss came first-over and wore down the pace-setting Backseat Rhythm en route to posting a career-best triumph in 1:56. Backseat Rhythm was second best, with Big Treat rounding out the top three in the affair.

Sent off as the 3-5 favourite, Ramblin Rose also gave owner/breeder Lomangino Standardbreds it second stakes winner on the card. The filly, who upped her earnings to $15,428 with the win, is now 2-for-2 to start her career.

Savhorsrideacowboy capped off the stakes action with a 1:56.1 decision in her $12,857 assignment. Jody Jamieson tripped out the Jim Graham pupil in the two-hole behind fractions of :29, :58.4 and 1:26.3 before launching a late attack and prevailing by 1-1/2 lengths over the pace-setting Girlsgotmachzie. P L Hula rounded out the top three finishers.

Sent off at odds of 8-1, the daughter of Mister Big-Red Road Rage is now 1-for-2 to start her career for owner/breeder Margaret Payne of St. Augustine, FL.
