Orion King Passes

Trot Insider has learned that Ontario Sires Stakes graduate Orion King has passed away after a tragic bout of colic.

A modest $3,000 yearling, Orion King was developed by Rocco D'Incognito and rose to the top of the OSS program at age three, winning a Gold Final at Rideau Carleton Raceway in 2005. The son of King Conch would go on to bank $145,716 as a sophomore and take a mark of 1:56.1 at Mohawk. As an aged competitor, Orion King banked an additional $236,000 while recording his lifetime best 1:54 at Mohawk at age five, ranking him as the third fastest son of his sire.

"His accomplishments during his racing career were remarkable. Words alone are not enough to emphasize how extremely proud and lucky I am to have owned a horse like that," D'Incognito told Trot Insider. "He was a true 'King' for me and losing him is the biggest disappointment of my life."

D'Incognito will keep Orion King's stall empty in his memory.

Sad news.
Condolences to the connection - he was a proud competitor like his father.

Very sorry Rocco. It's one of the worst things I want to hear - a horse leaving us before their time.

Condolences to Mr. D'Incognito and to all the connections of Orion King. Another great warrior joining Equine Heaven...
