Steady Heart Extends Streak In Stanfield Memorial

A quartet of races on the Sunday, July 6 afternoon card at Truro Raceway were dedicated to the Frank And Beth Stanfield Memorial, each carrying a $16,890 purse.

Despite a miscue before the start, Steady Heart ($2.40) won her division with a 1:57.1 triumph to extend her win streak to six. The Sunfire Blue Chip-Prettyndangerous sophomore filly and Marc Campbell landed in fifth off the car, worked their way through a first-over trip and opened up to score in a romp over the field.

Bo Ford, Arnold Myers, Luke Beck and Scott Bridges co-own Steady Heart, who earned her sixth straight win and sixth win in seven starts this year. In 10 career starts, she has banked $28,556 to go along with seven wins.

Elm Grove Talia ($5) won the first division by 3-1/4 lengths in 1:55.3 with trainer David Dowling in the bike. The daughter of Stonebridge Terror-Queens Or Better is owned by R. Kingsley Walsh, Donald Walsh, Frank Balcom and Shane Baglole. She moved her seasonal tally to 4-3-1 in eight starts. In 17 lifetime starts, Elm Grove Talia has banked $31,017 to go along with a record of 6-3-3.

My Happy Place ($2.60) was next up to take her featured division with a gate-to-wire triumph by a quarter length in 1:54.3, equalling the track record for sophomore males that was previously set by Woodmere Skyroller. Gilles Barrieau drove the Shadow Play-Smilesplace filly for Ron Matheson and owner Patrick Morris. The filly won her fourth race from seven starts this year, moving her career tally to 7-3-1 in 15 starts with $60,780 earned.

Finally, Windemere Classie ($8.70) went gate-to-wire in the last division to win by a half length in 1:56.3. Marc Campbell piloted the Earl Watts student, a daughter of Malicious-JK Jazzitup, for owners Windemere Farms, Brian and Ira Wallach Racing, Matt Burke and Don MacNeill Jr. A winner of three starts in her career, Windemere Classie's record stands at 2-2-1 in five starts this year with a career mark taken in the victory.

Three Atlantic Sire Stakes "A" divisions for two-year-old pacing colts went to the gate on Sunday with three first time starters making their debut appearance a winning one.

Sporty Anthony ($6.70) was driven to a five-length score in 1:56.3 by Ken Murphy to take the first ATSS "A" division. Jason Biggar trains and co-owns the Somewhere Fancy-Southwind Ion freshman gelding with Jason Williams. 

The second "A" division was won by Rollwiththewarden ($5.40) by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:59. The Rollwithitharry-Warden Woodie gelding was driven by his trainer, Corey MacPherson, and is owned by Elmer James Folland and Terra Baird.

Tobins Gem ($15.40) won the third and final "A" division with a 1:59.2 victory by a neck. Driven by Marc Campbell, the Flameproof Hanover-Grace Seelster gelding is trained by George Rennison and owned by Rennison Racing Inc.

The two ATSS "B" divisions for freshman colts were won by Windemere Barkley ($4.80, Zachary Mullins) in 2:02.2 and Woodmere Bullet ($5.10, Adam Merner) in 1:59. 

Corey Pickrem scored his first career training win in the $1,500 conditioned pace with Top Of Her Trade ($7.80). Piloted by Corey MacPherson, the Bolt The Duer-Career Success mare notched Pickrem's milestone triumph with a 1:56.4 victory.
