Beau Jangles was ultra-impressive in his pari-mutuel debut on Saturday, July 5 at Woodbine Mohawk Park in the first Ontario Sires Stakes (OSS) Gold Series test of the year for two-year-old pacing colts. The $140,000 event attracted a field of 10.

The Cattlewash-Mrs Major Hill colt, driven by Bob McClure, sat third through the :27 opening quarter, but blasted to the front shortly after to take the field through remaining fractions of :56.1 and 1:23.1 to win by three lengths over Tilthecowscomehome (Jody Jamieson) in 1:50.1. Windor (Doug McNair) was third, followed by Borderline Mobby (James MacDonald) and No Waitlist (Travis Henry).

Beau Jangles, trained by Dr. Ian Moore, was the 2-1 betting favourite.

“This colt, he’s exceptional,” McClure told Woodbine broadcaster Chad Rozema in the winner’s circle. “He can leave the gate, he’s perfect-gaited, great mouth. You can sit him in the three hole, move him to the front and he melts for you. Yeah, I had to yell at him down the lane to keep his attention, but he was waiting for more to come. He wasn’t done.

“He’s got gears that I haven’t seen many two-year-olds have. It’s surprising because horses [that large] usually are not perfectly-gaited. They’re usually growing into their legs. But this guy is an athlete.”

Bred by Tara Hill Stud of Port Perry, Ont., Beau Jangles was purchased for $65,000 U.S. at the 2024 Standardbred Horse Sale Company yearling auction in Harrisburg, Penn. by Graham Grace Stables of Clifton, Va., Jonathan Roberts of Laplata, Md. and Bolton Stables of Clemont, Fl.

“This guy’s got a real quick turn of speed,” Moore told Rozema. “I trained him on Thursday and I just asked him one time and it was like he put the gear shift down and away he went.”

Beau Jangles already sports earnings of $70,000 after one career start. The next OSS Gold event for this group goes on July 19 at Mohawk.

While Beau Jangles has turned heads already this summer, one pacer that's made headlines for the past few months is Brue Hanover. That five-year-old son of Stay Hungry - Blind Ambition now boasts 10 wins in his last 11 starts — one loss through a placing — after a strong 1:48 wire-to-wire effort in the $36,000 Preferred Pace. James MacDonald engineered the winning trip for trainer Dave Menary and owners Burke Racing Stable LLC of Fredericktown and Weaver Bruscemi LLC of Canonsburg, Pa.

Now a 30-time winner with more than $608,000 in earnings, Brue Hanover paid $2.60 to win in his three-length score over Poseidon Seelster (McClure) with Century Komodo (Doug McNair) next across the wire.

Its Major Major A ($8.90) uncorked a 1:48.3 effort in just his third performance on North American soil to prevail in the $30,000 Pop-Up Series final for horses and geldings that were non-winners of $30,000 in 2025 with a minimum of 10 starts, or starters for a purse of $12,000 in their last start. The $20,000 Consolation went to Delightful Leader (1:50.3; $19.10) with Thunder Country (1:51.3; $7.60) rumbling home to take the $16,000 Consolation.
