A quartet of $10,000 Prospect Series contests headlined the Saturday, July 4 program at Hanover Raceway, with two opening leg divisions offered for freshman filly pacers and another pair for freshman pacing colts. Distaffer Th Moment Of Truce turned in the fastest split, winning by open lengths in 1:59.1.
After finishing fourth in her debut last month at Hippodrome 3R, Th Moment Of Truce scored her first career win in convincing fashion. Assigned post position four in the field of eight, the favourite dropped in second behind Ld N Me (Tyler Moore) through a :29.3 first quarter. Chasing Jims Dream and Damian MacLellan moved from fourth and gave chase, racing a nose off the leader as the freshman pacers reached the half-mile station in 1:01.
Still on the outside, Chasing Jims Dream gained a slight advantage at three-quarters (1:29.4), but driver Austin Sorrie had Th Moment Of Truce out and moving. The tandem took control and quickly sprinted away from the field, opening up by three lengths in the stretch and crossing the wire 6-1/2-lengths to the good following a :29.1 last quarter. Reenee (Jason Ryan) powered home to finish second, with Chasing Jims Dream 13 lengths back in third.
The Gerard Demers trainee is by Control The Moment out of the Mach Three mare Truce Seelster. Th Moment Of Truce is owned by David Pilon of Berthier, Que.
Revenge Dress wired the field in the second split for fillies, turning away the challenge of Two Piece to claim victory in 2:01.1. Lining up sixth in a field of eight, Jason Ryan sent his charge to the lead, pacing the field through fractions of :30, 1:01.3 and 1:31 as Two Piece and Brady Galliers began a first-over charge. In the stretch, Two Piece came within a nose of the leader, but Revenge Dress used a :30.1 last quarter to draw clear by 1-3/4 lengths. Two Piece was followed across the line by favourite Side Dish (Sorrie).
Revenge Dress won her debut for trainer Gregg McNair. The filly is owned by William Fleming of New York.
Ryan returned to the winner’s circle one race later, steering Will Farroh to victory in the fastest of the two pacing colt divisions, stopping the clock in 2:00.4. The narrow second choice in a compact field of five, Will Farroh and Ryan sat third in a contest that saw two of the entrants gap badly off the pace set by favourite The Dancing King and Galliers. After fractions of :30.4 and 1:01, Will Farroh moved to the outside and advanced to within 1-½ lengths of the leader at three-quarters (1:31.3). Sprinting to the wire in :29, the colt turned the deficit into a one-length advantage to claim his debut. Sports Caper raced third for driver Daryl Thiessen.
Will Farroh is a son of Century Farroh-Superior Rose trained by McNair. The colt is owned by William Brown, Hanover, Ont. and Brenda Derible of Simcoe, Ont.
Spiritoftheeclipse emerged victorious in the closest of the four Prospect Series events, putting a neck in front of Uppity Up to score in 2:04.4 in his debut. When the gate folded, Hear Me Roar and Jody Jamieson led the field into the turn, but Uppity Up and Ryan reached the :30.4 quarter first with a move from third. Jamieson was not content to surrender the lead, keeping Uppity Up to his outside through a 1:03 opening half. Rob Doyle, sitting second over with Spiritoftheeclipse through three panels (1:34.4), waited until the last turn to move three-wide. In the stretch the two used a :29.4 late kick to edge Uppity Up at the line. Hear Me Roar finished three parts of a length back in third.
Trained by Ashley Duford, the gelded son of Artspeak-My Moriah is owned by Loretta Jones of Nokomis, Illinois and Kyle Larner of Warren, Michigan.
