Freshmen Colts Flaunt It In ATSS

Two-year-old pacing colts and geldings clashed in the Atlantic Sires Stakes at Truro Raceway on Thursday, with a trio of “A” divisions and a set of “B” divisions going postward

Pictonians Souwest notched the second stakes win of his career thanks to a 2:00.2 triumph in the first $7,400 split. The son of Western Paradise-Southwind Sasha took over command at the quarter pole and kept six foes at bay en route to the popular win. He defeated Homersboybart and Island Inspiration.

Trained and driven by Mike Stevenson for owner Daniel Ross of Belfast, PEI, Pictonians Souwest is now 2-for-3 in his career.

D J Supreme used the exact same tactical approach to capture his $7,400 assignment in 2:01.4 for driver Darren Crowe. The son of Force Of Life-Daveys Lady, who finished off his foes with a :29.4 final frame, drew off to win by 2-1/4 lengths over Enforcore. Calmlea Justin was third.

The victory improved the freshman’s record to 1-2-0 in three starts for owner/trainer David Jackson of Great Village, NS.

Putnams Power took a perfect 4-for-4 record into his $7,400 division, and he went home 5-for-5 thanks to a 2:00.3 triumph for trainer/driver Danny Romo. The son of Force Of Life-Southview Shania, who was sent off as the 2-5 favourite, clicked by 3-1/4 lengths over J G S Sandy. New School rallied to finish third.

Ronald Seymour, Jr. and Bruce Donovan of Glace Bay, NS share ownership on the career winner of $13,869.

The $2,500 “B” divisions belonged to a pair of youngsters carrying the Woodmere prefix – Sandman and Digger.

Woodmere Sandman picked up a maiden-breaking win when he toured the oval in 2:01.1 for driver Stephen Trites and trainer Sheldon Watts. The gelded son of Western Success-Sanfrangelica front-stepped to the win over Stoveonfire and Tobins Fortune. He is owned by Susan Seymour, Beverley Trites and John Osborne of New Brunswick.

Woodmere Digger erased an 0-for-4 start to his career with a 2:03.1 triumph in the other $2,500 division. The son of Divot Hanover-Shalom Sham led at every station for driver Todd Trites en route to the two-length score over Howdidchado. Fit The Bill rounded out the top three. The pacer is owned and trained by Wayne McGean of Sydney Mines, NS.
