Trotters On Display; Devaux Wins Five

Driver Jay Randall is enjoying another fantastic season at Saratoga Casino Hotel and on Wednesday (July 24), the veteran reinsman came up just shy of sweeping the co-features, teaming up with Iamnotlefthanded in one of two $9,000 featured events for New York-sired trotters while missing the other by just a nose.

The 58-year-old Randall guided Iamnotlefthanded (Credit Winner) to a first-over victory. Iamnotlefthanded toughed out an overland journey and wound up wearing down favourite Aerial Flight (Jimmy Devaux) before stopping the timer in 1:59.1. The win was the third of the season for the Eric Adsit trainee who has hit the board in better than half of his starts on the campaign.

Iamnotlefthanded sustained a wide journey to reach in one of Wednesday's co-featured trots at Saratoga Casino Hotel.

Randall came up just a nose shy of sweeping the co-features when Frank Hanover tried to gun down front-trotting Squirely Girly (Muscle Mass) in the other division. Squirely Girly made the front with her trainer Jordan Derue in the sulky and held off the late charge from Frank Hanover to record a lifetime-best 1:58.1 win. Returning $9.10 to win, Squirely Girly recorded her second victory in three starts but also just her second on the season. Frank Hanover was the runner-up for Randall, who piloted a pair of Wednesday winners.

Devaux, who currently sits second in the local driver standings, had another big night as he added five wins to his bulky total in 2019. All five of Devaux’s winners set new lifetime marks.

Live racing resumes on Friday night (July 26) at Saratoga with a 7:05 p.m. first post. There will be a Pick-5 carryover of $1,288 on Friday, with the Pick-5 starting in the evening’s first race.
