Records Fall At Northside Downs

Northside Downs' all-age track record fell to Outlawpositivcharg, who turned in a 1:55 front end score in the $8,000 JA Ferguson Memorial Invitational on Saturday afternoon. But that wasn’t the only record-setting performance of the day

. Atlantic Sires Stakes action was also featured on the card with Scootingforsuccess lowering the sophomore pacing filly record to 1:58.3.

Outlawpositivcharg left from the rail in the Invitational Pace and carved out fractions of :29.2, :58.4 and 1:27.1 en route to a four and a quarter length score over St Pete Star (Danny Romo) and Silver Dragon (Kenny Arsenault). The 1:55 winning time lowered Shifty Shadow’s track record by three-fifths of a second.

Trained and driven by Terry Gallant, the six-year-old son of Blissfull Hall-Electromagnetic has won seven of his 13 starts in 2010 to earn nearly $20,000. Fred Lamont of Calgary, AB owns the gelding, who finished second to P H Bestman in last weekend’s Governor’ Plate at Summerside Raceway.

Northside Downs’ Saturday program also featured three-year-old pacing fillies competing in three $6,760 Atlantic Sires Stakes 'A' divisions.

Scootingforsuccess, with driver Kenny Arsenault, kicked off the afternoon’s ATSS action with a wire-to-wire score in 1:58.3, lowering Blackriver Fame’s track record by four-fifths of a second. The four-length winner defied her odds as she was sent postward as the longest shot on the board at 9-1. Ammon Darcy (Harold Leblanc Jr.) and Putnams Dough Girl (Bernard McCallum) finished second and third.

Wade Sorrie trains Scootingforsuccess, a daughter of Western Success-Scooting Annie who has won two times in eight starts this season earning $10,446, for owner Walter Simmons of Summerside, PE.

Arsenault was back in the bike for another victory in the next split with Meridian Magic, who ran her win streak to 18 with a 1:59.2 wire-to-wire romp. J Gs Frankie (Clare MacDonald) finished two lengths behind with Island Sensation (Leonard Myers) 14 lengths in arrears.

The daughter of Largo-Hot Asset is a perfect seven-for-seven this year with $33,709 earned. Arsenault trains and drives for breeder Barry Martin and James Gillis of Sydney, NS.

Woodmere Rose rallied from off cover to take the final division in a career-best 2:00 by one and three-quarter lengths over front-stepper Elm Grove Ella (Clare MacDonald). Hey Jean (Danny Romo) finished third.

Barry Folland trains and co-owns the daughter of Western Success-Blue Violet with fellow Kensington, PE resident Roger Wall. Woodmere Rose, who picked up her first win of the season in eight attempts, watched her seasonal earnings jump to $9,474 with the victory.

Pictonian Pasha (2:02.1) and Iona Paula (2:02.3) each won their respective $2,500 ‘B’ divisions.

In Saturday’s $1,000 Open Pace, Woodmere Westerner and driver Greg Bailey were shuffled back to fifth, but the six-year-old gelded son of Western Success-Harrods Route unleashed a :28.4 final frame to come on for the victory in 1:59.1. Nu Xample (Kevin Bailey) finished nearly two lengths back in second with Heres Harley (Max Sehl) third.

Mary Lynn Collins trains and shares ownership of the winner of three races in 11 starts this year and $2,098 with Howard Collins.
