Tyrone Bow Tie, denied last week in a late-closing effort, recaptured the overnight trotting crown at Rideau Carleton Raceway as he won the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Trot on Wednesday, July 23.

He took up fourth position for Ryan Guy and stuck to the cones as Raising Rusty (Stephane Pouliot) put up a :27.2 first panel and Kenogami Coco (Robert Shepherd) pulled pocket to lead to the half in :57.3. Tyrone Bow Tie embarked on his first-over march as the field entered the backstretch, and he rolled by Kenogami Coco just past three-quarters in 1:26. After brief resistance from the former leader, Tyrone Bowtie kicked clear in the stretch and prevailed by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:55.4. Emma Town Bud (Pierre Bovay) closed for place over Kenogami Coco. The winner returned $3.50.

Tyrone Bow Tie took his 10th career victory in 48 starts while lifting his earnings to $99,491. Mike Armstrong trains the son of Lookslikeachpndale-Risk Seeker for Cardinal, Ont.-based owners Rachel Burns, Wade Tousignant, and Philip Tousignant. The five-year-old gelding has won three of his past five starts in the Rideau top class and is six-for-19 overall this year.

Veteran trotter Donatover came back from 17 lengths behind at the quarter after an early break to win a three-across finish and record his 50th career victory in the fifth race. The gelding, driven by Guy Gagnon, began to gallop just before the wings folded and fell far back of the leading group of four in the first quarter. Undeterred, he picked up speed and caught the pack passing the stands, racing fourth before moving first-up on the final turn. After initially spinning his wheels, he unleashed a huge late kick in the stretch and out-sprinted Sant Ambroggio (Pascal Berube) by a nose for the 1:58.4 victory. Pacesetter Royal Duharas (Loic Gueriel) was game but had to settle for third by a head. The judges reviewed the early break by the winner but found no violation of the racing rules.

Donatover, trained and owned by John MacMillan, reached the 50-win milestone in his 232nd lifetime start. The 10-year-old Donato Hanover-Anonyme Hanover gelding has earned $520,533.

Top trainer Mandy Archer tripled once again on the eight-race program. She won the third race with Tamara Hanover ($36.60) in a 17-1 upset, the fourth race with Mae Lose Control ($4.80), and the sixth dash with Sonofamillionaire ($3.30). That performance brings her to 56 wins on the season in 172 starts for a success rate of 32.6 per cent. She leads the Rideau trainers’ standings by 21 wins over Gagnon.
