While the greatness of Secretariat and Ron Turcotte have been immortalized in many ways over the years, that didn't stop Turcotte's hometown of Grand Falls, N.B. from creating something special to recognize the jockey's significance.

On Sunday, Grand Falls unveiled a bronze statue of Secretariat and Turcotte winning the 1973 Belmont. The ceremony was preceded by the airing of the documentary, Secretariat's Jockey - Ron Turcotte produced in 2013 by Phil Comeau in association with the National Film Board.

"I have received many awards and trophies from all over, but to have my own town honour me in this way is very special to me and my family," Turcotte rold CBC. "It is very touching, believe me. It made me cry a few times there."

Turcotte lives in the area, returning home after an accident left him paralyzed from the waist down in 1978.

"Being immortalized now, two places in Canada and two places in the United States, but in your hometown, it's special," said Turcotte.
