Eric Goodell, who owns Magic Will Work, took matters into his own hands Wednesday at The Meadows when he drove his five-year-old mare to victory in the $18,000 Filly & Mare Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Trot.
Magic Will Work stalked the leader, Mistress Valentine, from the pocket, then drew off in the Lightning Lane to triumph in 1:54.4, a new lifetime mark. Mistress Valentine saved place, two and a half lengths back, with Homepage third. Paul Kennedy trains the daughter of Kadabra-Raquel Victory, who soared over $100,000 in career earnings.
Elsewhere on the program, freshman pacer Given Up Terror scored in 1:55.4, the fastest time so far this year by a two-year-old gelding on a five-eighths-mile track. Chris Shaw piloted the son of Western Terror-Aint Given Up for trainer Lisa Beinhauer and owner Chad Parker.
Dave Palone drove three winners on the 15-race card.
On Thursday, July 3, The Meadows Racetrack & Casino will offer a $5,000 guaranteed pool for its Pick 5 wager as part of the United States Trotting Association's Strategic Wagering Initiative. The Meadows added the “instant” guarantee after Wednesday’s Pick 5 was uncovered, resulting in a $1,215.59 carryover.
Minimum wager for the Pick 5 (Races 11-15) is 50 cents. Since Pennsylvania law requires a minimum per-race wager of $2, a player wagering at the 50-cent level must bet at least four tickets.
First post Thursday is 12:55 p.m.
