Speedshow For Grassrooters At Mohawk

Three-year-old pacing colts and geldings sparred in seven divisions of the OSS Grassroots at Mohawk Racetrack, and it was a night of lifetime marks for the sophomores

P L Earl matched his career-best clocking of 1:52 in the opening division for the team of driver Rick Zeron and trainer Matt Dupuis. The son of Million Dollar Cam-Lukes Monica shot to immediate command and sped the field through fractions of :26.4, :55.1 and 1:23.4 before using a :28.1 closing panel to finish off his foes. He won by 1-1/4 lengths over Classic Call, with third prize going to All Tricked Out.

The victory was the third of the season for the homebred who is owned by Prince Lee Acres of Uxbridge and 590900 Ontario Ltd of Brampton, ON. The $12,000 payday lifted his lifetime earnings to $47,340.

Wazzup Wazzup rallied from just off the pace to take the second split in a career-best clocking of 1:52 for driver Jack Moiseyev. The son of Life Sign-Paula Seelster used a :28-second final frame to win by a neck over Medoland J T, with Camaes Fellow a length back in third.

Frank Colville trains the colt for High Stakes Inc of Moffat and Robby Wiratmo Wibawa of Mississauga, ON. The victory was the fourth of the season in 19 tries for the colt, who was unraced as a rookie. He has stashed away $62,630 to date.

Mach Of Ballykeel relied on his closing skills to pick up his first win of the season for trainer Cameron McKnight. The homebred son of Mach Three-Teig N Riley kicked home in :26.3 for driver Sylvain Filion to win in a lifetime-best clocking of 1:52. Tara Micket’s late rally came up a head short, while Guns An Roses faded late to finish third.

Ballykeel Racing and Mach Of Ballykeel Stable of Tillsonburg, ON share ownership on the four-time winner who has banked $177,887 in his career.

Buckleberry Finn made his OSS debut a winning one for trainer Casie Coleman, who shares ownership on the son of Royal Mattjesty-Makin Bucks with her partners in the West Wins Stable of Cambridge, ON. The colt, who was making just his third lifetime start, rallied home in :27.4 to win by 1-1/4 lengths in a personal best of 1:52. Hi Sir was next under the finish line, and Grand Master tagged along to finish third.

Scott Zeron mapped out the winning trip for the 2-1 favourite. He has stashed away $22,125 with just three starts under his belt.

Sonic Dancer also made his debut in the OSS program a winning one as he rallied to win in an eye-catching clocking of 1:50.3 for driver Jody Jamieson and trainer Mike Keeling. The homebred son of Mach Three-Beach Dancer catapulted off cover and uncorked a :26.3 final quarter en route to a 1-3/4 lengths tally over Mach Wheel. Facebook also closed from well off the pace to round out the top three finishers.

Sent off as the 3-5 favourite, Sonic Dancer improved his 2011 record to 2-0-1 in three tries for Enviro Stables Ltd of South Hampton, NY. The colt, who was unraced as a freshman, upped his lifetime earnings to $21,940 with the win.

Thats The Life found his way to the winner’s circle for the fifth time this season thanks to his front-stepping score in 1:52 – his fastest mile to date. Jody Jamieson engineered the win with the homebred son of Life Sign-All That, who defeated Officernagentleman and Honorable Henry.

Jack Darling trains the gelding for owner/breeder Mitchell Walker of Davison, MI. Despite going winless in three starts as a rookie, Thats The Life has managed to tuck away close to $50,000 in lifetime earnings.

Musselsfrmbrussels staked claim to a new lifetime mark when he rolled to a 6-1/4 lengths score in the final $24,000 division in a time of 1:51.1 for catch-driver Mike Saftic. Subbing for trainer Lyle MacArthur, who was injured in a spill earlier in the day at Woodstock Raceway, Saftic made a bold first-over move to the lead and used a :28-second closing panel to deliver the knockout punch to the competition in the late stages of the mile. Wit And Wisdom was the best of the rest, and Calgary Seelster came on late to finish third.

Anne and Mike Shunock of Dorchester, ON own the son of Modern Art-Remember The Magic who is now 3-for-14 this season after going winless in three starts as a rookie. The $12,000 payday boosted his cash stash to $52,860.
