Curtis Larrimore of the North Street Stable told Trot Insider on July 2 that millionaire World Record-holding Self Possessed mare Snow White had to be euthanized earlier

that morning at the New Bolton Centre after having undergone emergency surgery.

"I got a call about roughly 4:30 this morning from Snow White's trainer, Kevin Lare, and he said that she was in a great deal of pain and discomfort," Larrimore told Trot Insider. The North Street Stable co-owns Snow White along with Harness The Power and Jerry Silva.

Larrimore said that he was told the mare was in significant pain when she arrived at New Bolton. "They performed surgery on her and discovered that a very, very large portion of intestine was twisted and had to be removed. The doctors said that she would have, at best, a five to 10 per cent chance of survival."

Larrimore explained that he then contacted the rest of the connections and it was determined that Snow White --- considered by some to be the best two-year-old trotter ever --- had to be euthanized.

"The only thing that I can say is that it is a tragic loss," Larrimore told Trot Insider. "I picked her out as a yearling; this horse meant so much to me. She's incomparable. The way she covered the ground the way she did, and what she showed everybody…she was just something else, and I'm going to miss her, dearly. She had just gone a mile in 1:59 the day before all of this happened."

In 19 career starts, Snow White compiled a record of 14-0-1, banking $1,432,056 in purses. Her world mark of 1:52.4 taken over the Red Mile at two is still the fastest time on her card. That mark is the fastest two-year-old trotting mile ever recorded.

The mare took home an O'Brien Award in 2007 as Canada's Two-Year-Old Trotting Filly of the Year and also earned the Dan Patch Award south of the border that season. Her stakes credits included the Champlain, Oakville, International Stallion Stakes, Breeders Crown and the Delvin Miller Memorial.

"She was cremated today and her urn will be amongst her trophies in my trophy case. I can't believe she is gone."

Please join Standardbred Canada in offering condolences to the connections of Snow White.
