Fashion Frenzie Flogs Open Trotters At Mohawk Park

There’s an old myth that the hardest jump for any horse in racing is the jump from the three-year-old ranks into the four-year-old ranks.

Bulldog Hanover has dispelled that myth in the pacing ranks this season, and Fashion Frenzie has done the same in the trotting ranks for trainer Richard Moreau.

As part of a three-win night for the multiple O’Brien Award-winning Moreau, Fashion Frenzie toyed with the competition for the second time in as many tries this season when he dismantled the six foes he sparred with in Monday’s $38,500 Open Handicap Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Fashion Frenzie landed in the pocket spot early behind Pikachu Hanover who supplied the opening quarter in :27.  Fashion Frenzie opted to pop the pocket in the backstretch for driver Louis-Philippe Roy, and together they sprinted to the lead and went on to carve out middle fractions of :56 and 1:24.1.

Patriarch Hanover took a poke at his stablemate around the final turn, but Fashion Frenzie had more than enough in reserve to seal the deal.  He kicked home in :27.3 to win by 2-1/2 lengths over Patriarch Hanover in a career-best clocking of 1:51.4.  Taking home third prize was Pikachu Hanover.

Sent off as the 2-1 favourite, the four-year-old son of Archangel-Striking Fashion won for the 13th time in his career for partners Ecurie Francis Richard Inc., Mario Bourgea, Pierre Guillemette and Sylvain Richard.  The lion’s share of the loot lifted his lifetime earnings to $761,935.

Roy and Moreau came right back to victory lane in Race 10 with Captain Video in the $20,000 Pop Up Series Final.

The five-year-old son of Captaintreacherous-Eitherurinorurout parked past the quarter pole in :27 before finding the front and carving out remaining splits of :55.1 and 1:23.  He kicked home in :28 to win by a head over favourite Hesincontrol in 1:51.  Sometime Somewhere rounded out the Trifecta ticket.

Ecurie CSL and Gaston Bibeau own the 17-time winner who now boasts a 2022 record of 5-3-3 from 27 starts.  The victory in the conclusion to the series bumped his lifetime earnings over $200,000.

Hunter Hill was treated to a sweet trip in the $12,500 Pop Up Series Consolation, and the gelding turned it into a career-best score.

Phil Hudon put the Scott West trainee on top early, and after carving out the :26.3 opening quarter they relented to the parked out Saulsbrook Victor.  The new leader sizzled through middle splits of :53.3 and 1:21.2, but he couldn’t seal the deal.

Saulsbrook Victory came under attack late by Hunter Hill who used a :28.3 closing quarter to win by a nose over Saulsbrook Victory in 1:50.3.  Bolt Power rallied from far back to be third.

West of Rockwood, Ont. owns the five-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere-Ali Blue.  The victory was his first of the season from 11 attempts.  The nine-time winner bumped his overall bankroll to $107,670 with the victory.
