Four-year-old pacing mare Lights Go Out circled a field of seven Preferred foes for the upset victory over millionairess Voelz Hanover in a career-best performance on Friday night at Mohawk Racetrack.

Driven by Phil Hudon in the evening's featured $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred, Lights Go Out was seventh at the third quarter mark and sprinted home in :26-seconds to prevail by two lengths in 1:50.3. She stole the spotlight from favourite Voelz Hanover (Randy Waples), who had led the distaffers through fractions of :26.2, :55 and 1:23.1. D Gs Pesquero (James MacDonald) finished third off a pocket trip. Mach A Wish (Rick Zeron) was fourth with first over Rebeka Bayama (Sylvain Filion) grabbing the final paycheque in fifth.

Lights Go Out paid $12.40 to win as the 5-1 third choice.

She now has seven wins in 17 starts and $96,580 in earnings this year while racing from the Rod Boyd stable. The four-year-old daughter of Western Ideal is owned by Glenn Bechtel of Kingston, Ont.
