It was only the second night of driving this season for Saskatchewan veteran driver Brad LeDrew, but he made the most it Friday at Cornerstone Raceway in Yorkton getting to the winner’s circle twice

.

The first win came early as he piloted Maximus Pass to first in the night’s opening race, over Tyler Redwood with Phil House and Terry Kaufman behind Miss Laguna Beach.

The second win came is Race 5 with the five-year-old mare Power Maid, winning over brother Glenn LeDrew and Pedicure and Terry Kaufman with Hurricane Pat.

Brad LeDrew said it was great to get the wins. “It was awesome. It was a nice day to race. The stands were full. It was just a great day of racing,” he said.

LeDrew, who has raced for years, said wins are still special. “Every win is like the first one,” he said. He added you might think they would lose some of their thrill, but that is not the case.

While LeDrew did the driving, he was quick to share the glory. “The credit goes to the Graingers (owners Glenn and Jane Grainger of Regina), to trainer Ron McLeod and grooms Lance and Nolan (McLeod). They all did a great job,” he said.

“It’s great to drive horses that once they get up behind the gate are sharp and ready to go. They were all sharp tonight with lots to give.”

As for picking a best drive of the night, LeDrew said both Maximus Pass and Power Maid were veteran horses doing what they do best, pace good races. “They know what they’re doing. They show up at the gate and they’re ready,” he said.

It helped Friday the Yorkton track was in prime condition.

“The track was the best its been all year...The track crew has done a great job,” said LeDrew.

In Open action, six-year-old Tajma Hall gelding Tajwon won for the second time in four Manitoba starts under trainer Shawn Worthen's care. Tajwon stopped the clock in 2:01.2 with Glenn LeDrew in the bike for owner Ruth Welcher of Roblin, MB.

The class's last winner, Kalahari Riff and Kevin Seiver, finished three-quarters of a length behind off a pocket trip with pacesetter Barona Fivehundred and Terry Kaufman third.
