Trainer Trevor Williams clobbered his competition through the opening day card at the Miami Fair on Saturday (July 15), winning five of the nine races on the card including both featured Open events.
In the $4,800 Open Pace, Williams collected his fifth of five victories with an annihilation by Keystone Tenacious in 1:57.1. The eight-year-old So Surreal gelding rolled on an uncontested and ever-expanding lead through a clip of :29.1, :59.1 and 1:28.4 to stop the clock in 1:57.1 and finish 20-1/4 lengths in front of Tagoras.
Tim Gordon owns Keystone Tenacious, a 24-time winner from 127 starts and earner of $414,375. Blake Piwniuk drove the $3.40 winner.
Williams also won in the $4,600 Fillies and Mares Open Pace with I Will Do It in 2:01.1. Piwniuk rallied from off the speed with the eight-year-old daughter of Camluck, closing from last through opening splits of :30 and 1:01.1 to make inroads on 1-9 favourite Pure Addition in the second circuit. I Will Do It ranged into fourth by three-quarters in 1:31 and stormed home to take victory by a length over Pure Addition with Treasure Horizon another four lengths back in third.
I Will Do It races for owners Adam Mace, Michael Williams and Aurel Vodon and has now earned $101,166 while taking her 16th victory from 114 starts. She returned $19.80 to win.
Oriental Express (1:59.3 winning mile; $12.80 to win) gave Williams his first win of the day. Williams then won back-to-back races, first scoring with Handcuffed (2:04.1; $2.10) and in the race following with Tuff As Buff (2:01.3; $4.40) before winning the features.
