"Yannick (driver Yannick Gingras) knows he can ask things of Foiled Again that other people don't believe he can do. He's a horse that always seems to rise to the occasion."
Trainer Ron Burke has taken some time to discuss Foiled Again as the great son of Dragon Again readies for the $150,000 Battle of Lake Erie, which will be contested this Saturday (July 19) at Northfield Park in Ohio.
In discussion with D’Arcy Egan of the The Plain Dealer, Burke admitted that Post 7 “wasn't the spot I was looking for." Nevertheless, the 10-year-old winner of over $6.3 million in career purses has shown he can overcome adversity.
"Foiled Again is a very sound horse, but a very light horse," said Burke. "That he is so small in stature has helped him to stay sound. And he still acts like a young colt, jumping around and enjoying himself. Foiled Again very much into racing, enjoys being out on the track and gets excited before a race."
Foiled Again has been installed as the 3-1 morning line favourite for the ‘Battle.’ If he able to get the job done, the gelding will become the first equine to ever win the stakes event three times. For an overview of the 2014 Battle of Lake Erie, click here.
